Sharia is considered to be among the strictest of the rules in Islamic cultures with Sharia Law being enacted in many Muslim nations throughout the world. Those who do not go along with these laws can be executed in many countries for opposing Islam as well as the law. The laws are very strict, particularly as they relate to women who virtually have no rights under Sharia.
For example, under Sharia Law, a woman who is raped can actually be stoned to death. The rape is seen as a crime against her family and women will be blamed for encouraging the act of violence if they were out alone. Although men will be punished as well, women often bear the brunt of the punishment if it is determined, by the men in charge, that she did something to provoke the attack. Her punishment is then worse than that of the offender.
Women must be covered up under Sharia as well. They cannot expose their hair and must wear clothing that covers their arms to their wrists and their legs to their ankles. In some cultures, they have to wear a loose fitting garment that does not allow for their shape to show. The reason for this is because women can tempt men to do things, such as commit rape or adultery, simply by being out and about in modern dress. In many Islamic countries, it is a crime for even Western women who are visiting to go out uncovered.
Sharia also focuses on the actions of men and others relating to Islam. Men who do not pray, or who do not believe in Islam can be put to death under Sharia Law because they are blasphemous. There is no room in Islam for homosexuality as it is considered a crime that is also punishable by death for those who engage in this type of behavior. In western countries, Muslims can be free to practice their religion as they choose. However, in Islamic countries where Sharia Law is enacted, then all persons must practice as is mandated or risk prison or even death for not doing so.
Those who speak out against Sharia in countries where this is the law of the land also open themselves up to a death sentence. Those who do not believe in Islam or believe in another religion can also be put to death for their beliefs in Islamic states. An increasing number of countries in the Middle East are becoming more fanatical when it comes to their religion and enacting laws that mandate that people behave according to their interpretation of the Koran. The Middle East, which has been in a perpetual state of unrest for years, is now seeing more unrest and the rise in power of those who will enact Sharia Laws, eliminating rights that many of those in the West take for granted because they have lived with them all of their lives. It is believed that some people who flee from Islamic countries to western countries do so in order to have the freedom that is suppressed in their own country of origin.
